Student Track Program Information
The following are two flyers outlining the student track program for the 2010 IABC Heritage Region Conference in Philadelphia, PA – Ocober 17 -19, 2010. The Student Track is a tradition for the Heritage Region conference where students enrolled in communication and public relation from colleges and universities throughout the region have the opportunity to learn more about careers in the field. Over three days, they network with professionals in the industry and hear from thought leaders discussing the latest trends and tools being used.

In these days of a constantly shrinking marketplace, with companies downsizing, retrenching and shutting down in unprecedented numbers, many business communicators are thinking of entrepreneurship as a logical approach to using their expertise and staying active in our profession. This session will provide tips and insights on what it takes to launch and succeed in your own communications business.
In 30-plus years of freelancing, Ruth E. Thaler-Carter has done communications work in business, diversity, human resources, adoption/foster care, the metric system, landscaping, communications, healthcare, Girl Scouting, home decor, printing, architecture/preservation, hospitality, technology, international issues, the peace movement, education, housing, philanthropy, contracting and much more. A recipient of the 1999 Philip M. Stern Award from the Washington Independent Writers for “exceptional service to the freelance profession,” Thaler-Carter was IABC/DC’s 1988 Communicator of the Year. She has made freelancing presentations for the Editorial Freelancers Association, Association for Women in Communications, Society for Professional Journalists, Society for Technical Communication, National Press Club and more.
